OPEN GREEN BRIDGE FOR FISH AND SMALL ANIMALS IN KORREBORG BROOK
The project is located at Bro Mølle, south of Vejrumbro. In the past, a watermill was located on the site, which dammed up the water and thus created a barrier to the green bridge in the area. The watermill is long gone, but the dam had been allowed to remain until spring 2021.
The project aims to create an open green bridge in Korreborg Brook. This will allow trout, eel and lamprey from Nørreå to migrate to Korreborg Brook to spawn. The realisation of the project was divided into two phases, and EnviDan has acted as the client consultant on both.
The first phase involved the demolition of buildings and removal of paved areas, while the second phase focused on stream restoration.
The demolition started in January 2021 and lasted for 3 months. This created space for the new course of Korreborg Brook to be established.
During May, a 338-metre new, meandering stream was created. The new stream ensures an open green bridge, while creating new spawning and nursery grounds for the brook's wildlife. Furthermore, it has given the area a major landscape boost, as old and partially worn-out buildings have been replaced by nature and green spaces.
The project has included a range of multidisciplinary skills, from biology and hydraulics to demolition, contaminated soils and geotechnics.
