NEW DISTRICT IN THE INDUSTRIAL AREA OF MALMO

The aim is to transform 66 hectares of industrial land and the former railway area into a dense new district.

Malmo Municipality has developed an in-depth overview plan for the southern Kirseberg and Östervärn areas near central Malmo. Combined residential and office areas are planned in the area, which can make use of the existing Östervärn railway station, which is to be renovated.

In total, Kirsebergstaden, as the area will be called, will contain around 4,500 homes and offer 3,500 jobs, as well as municipal services, such as state schools. The sewerage system is currently unified, but when the area is now transformed, there is a lack of capacity in the existing network, and therefore, expansion is desired with separate sewerage.

The role of EnviDan

EnviDan has been commissioned by VA Syd to prepare an implementation description. This means clarifying which studies need to be carried out to supply the area with water and proposing phasing for future investments.

In parallel, detailed plans for the area are being prepared, while renewal and capacity enhancements are planned due to other developments and needs in an expanding Malmo
