In a consortium with Jakobsen & Blindkilde - part of NCC, Envidan is building a new super-wastewater treatment plant with an associated biogas plant for Assens Rensning.

The project is described by the Project Manager, Jens Albrechtsen, as the largest and most ambitious treatment plant that has been tendered in Denmark in recent times. The new treatment plant is state-of-the-art in the handling and treatment of wastewater, and when the plant is put into operation in 2022, it will therefore demonstrate what we are capable of in terms of technology, environment and energy when the best solutions are chosen.

The super-wastewater treatment plant is "super" for several reasons

The new super-treatment plant replaces eight smaller treatment plants at West Funen, Denmark. The huge project has a budget of DKK 250 million., and although it is a large investment for the utility company, it makes economic and climate sense to build one large new treatment plant. This is due to the economies of scale and that the new super-treatment plant reduces the CO2 footprint from wastewater management. Thus, the new treatment plant is environmentally friendly and energy efficient.

The plant will have a capacity of 100,000 PE with the possibility of eventually expanding to 150,000 PE.

Communication ring for citizens and professionals

“The Utility Park” will be equipped with a so-called distribution ring, which is a public path system that goes right past the wastewater treatment plant with a view into the buildings and with the possibility of going up to a platform on top of one of the buildings, from which citizens and professionals can get an insight into how the plant works.

The team behind the project

New Assens Treatment Plant (Nyt Assens Renseanlæg) is carried out by a consortium consisting of Jakobsen & Blindkilde and Envidan. The architect is Cubo Arkitekter A/S. The construction team include Picca Automation, Bravida and Holsted Smede og Maskinværksted. The collaboration with Assens Rensning and Building Consultant  COWI is constructive. Throughout the project period wishes from Assens Rensning have been met.

The consortium was chosen by a unanimous board and based on an EU tender in which three general contractors were prequalified. The choice fell on the consortium New Assens Treatment Plant I/S (Nyt Assens Renseanlæg I/S), because their offer contained the best possible ratio between price and quality.

It is not just the technology that excites the Chairman of the Board of Assens Forsyning A/S, Poul Erik Kristiansen:

"In addition to absolutely modern, environmentally friendly and energy-efficient technology, the project's architecture plays well together, not just with the newly constructed waterworks, the planned administration building and workshop and warehouse building, but also with the landscape and the beautiful nature in and around “The Utility Park”. We are very much looking forward to this. We are also looking forward to working with a team of absolutely experienced construction and wastewater experts".

The utility of Assens Forsyning and Envidan are testing
