From thought to action: Envidan’s path towards sustainable practice

At Envidan, we strive to be leading experts in sustainability within the water cycle. In the company’s daily operations, this goal is constantly prioritized. We want to put our words into action, which is why we have a strong internal focus on implementing measures to ensure that we not only think sustainably, but also act and act accordingly.

Envidan is a company that has always provided advice on the aquatic environment and we have a strong desire to tap into the sustainable transition. With a desire to be a frontrunner, the sustainable agenda is therefore a prerequisite for the company’s continued growth and viability. Mads Uggerby, Director of Innovation and Sustainability at Envidan, emphasizes the importance of integrating sustainability into our business strategy:

“In order to succeed in our vision, we have merged sustainability with our corporate strategy. We will practice sustainable business.”

Corporate sustainability is partly driven by legal requirements that set out a framework for how companies should act in the areas of environmental, social and corporate governance. At Envidan, we are also working to meet these requirements by implementing systematic approaches in the company. Work is done at different levels to ensure that all company employees have the necessary skills and motivation to contribute to the sustainable approach.

Envidan’s internal sustainability strategy and training

Envidan prioritizes sustainability internally and has therefore developed a sustainable business strategy. An important point is that sustainability is seen as an integral part of the company, from the top management and board of directors to the individual employee in the company. This creates a common understanding and approach to sustainability throughout the organization to ensure sustainable behavior all the way around. The common approach and knowledge of sustainable engineering in Envidan places demands on the competence level of all employees.

“At Envidan, employees undergo basic training so that everyone has the basic skills to work sustainably in project work. What we want is to contribute to achieving a sustainable water sector through our everyday work with Sustainable Engineering.” – Mads Uggerby, Director of Innovation and Sustainability.

“What we want is to contribute to achieving a sustainable water sector through our everyday work with Sustainable Engineering.”

The basic training gives employees a common understanding of sustainability and teaches them how to work with it on a concrete level. During the training, our employees are taught examples that show how to work with sustainability in specific projects. Thus, Envidan strives to ensure that all employees have a basic understanding, qualified approach to sustainability and knowledge of where in the organization the industry’s frontrunners in sustainability are located.

At Envidan, we have found a solution that makes sense for our business, where the issues are not just handled by a single organizational department. We have found valuable meaning in distributing our frontrunners in a decentralized way throughout the organization’s departments. In this way, not just one department is created that is an expert in the field, but it becomes a common discipline that helps move us towards our company’s strategic goal of driving Proven Sustainable Business throughout the company. This is done with the understanding that it requires a change of behavior in each individual to achieve our goals.

New EU legislation tightens sustainability requirements and reporting processes

We continuously work to maintain the right standards in sustainability, including environmental and management standards, among others. Envidan’s Quality Manager, Michael Kristensen, explains that Envidan has been working with ISO certifications since 2014, which is an essential part of the strong foundation the company has today. The certifications help set a framework for Envidan to work systematically with quality and the environment – and successive sustainability.

With new regulatory requirements coming from the EU around sustainability, Envidan, along with the rest of Europe’s companies, is facing a new reality. There are new requirements for sustainability reporting CSRD, Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive, and here Envidan has a solid foothold with the ISO certifications behind it.

“There are some external factors such as legislation that set the framework within which we have to operate. We pay close attention to following these legislations and standards and find part of the solutions in the ISO standards. By using the mindset, approach and especially the tools of the ISO standards, we ensure that the company complies with new legal requirements and that we achieve our sustainability goals” – Michael Kristensen, Quality Manager

The journey we are on at Envidan in relation to the sustainability agenda already goes hand in hand with our environmental certification in particular. The task now is to create a context where our ISO certifications cover some of the elements of the sustainability agenda and CSRD reporting requirements. Envidan has a value-creating collaboration with the certification company Valcert, which understands our desire to merge sustainability with our business strategy. At the same time, they have helped build a bridge to our ISO certifications. Michael Kristensen, our Quality Manager, emphasizes the importance of the partnership with Valcert.

“Valcert has shown great understanding of our current journey. This makes them important players and a good sparring partner so that our work with sustainability can succeed.” – Michael Kristensen, Quality Manager

This is in line with the approach Valcert emphasizes with its customers.
“At Valcert, we want to create long-term relationships and dedicated support for organizations like Envidan that verify their environmental, social and sustainability performance,” says Managing Partner at Valcert, Steffen Filtenborg, and continues “Our collaboration with Envidan has clearly shown that their commitment to sustainability is not just an ambition, but a reality that they are working hard to achieve every day. By using the ISO standards as the basis for their sustainability initiatives, Envidan is taking impressive steps to integrate sustainability into their business strategy. We are proud to be part of their journey and look forward to supporting them in their continued efforts to be leaders in sustainable practices.”
